Members of McKinney's recreation centers may soon be able to use any of the city's three buildings on a single pass.
The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board is scheduled Thursday, Oct. 8, to consider a resolution that would scrap the current facility-by-facility memberships and replace them with one all-access membership good at the Recreation Center at Towne Lake, Old Settlers Recreation Center and the Senior Recreation Center. The board meets at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 401 E. Virginia St.
Staff are asking the board to recommend the new structure and rates to the City Council, which would have the final say.
Why staff want the change
According to the staff summary from Parks and Recreation Director Amy Kinkade's department, each of the three centers has built up its own prices, pass types, eligibility rules and perks over the years. The result, the memo says, is a system that customers and employees both find hard to follow and to manage.
The department also says members have asked to be able to use their membership at more than one building.
What about price?
The memo says McKinney has historically kept recreation memberships relatively inexpensive to keep them accessible, and that the proposed rates are meant to stay that way while lining up the cost with the added access to three centers.
