Sensory-friendly Spooktacular, a library Halloween Haunt and Noon Years Eve lead the city's new fall-to-winter lineup

McKinney posted its seasonal events and school-break camps, from a free sensory-friendly Halloween night Oct. 30 to Breakfast with Santa Dec. 5 and winter break camps at the Apex Centre.

McKinney's parks, recreation and library staff have posted the city's lineup of seasonal events from late October through New Year's Eve, along with day camps for Thanksgiving and winter break.

Several of the events are free, and a number require registration.

Halloween week

The Old Settler's Recreation Center, 1201 E. Louisiana St., will hold a free Sensory-friendly Spooktacular for all ages from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. The next morning, the John and Judy Gay Library hosts a Halloween Haunt with timed entries at 10 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. It is free, but registration is required.

At the Apex Centre, 3003 Alma Road, a Spooky Spin cycling class for ages 13 and up runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. It is free for members and $7 for nonmembers.

November and December

The schedule includes a sensory-friendly screening of *The Polar Express* for ages 4 and up on Friday, Nov. 20, at Old Settler's ($2 for residents, $3 for nonresidents) and a free Native American Heritage Celebration at the Gay Library on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Home for the Holidays returns to downtown McKinney from Friday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 29. Breakfast with Santa follows on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at Old Settler's, at $15 for residents and $21 for nonresidents.

Caroling on the Square is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Dr. Glenn Mitchell Memorial Park, 300 W. Louisiana St. It is free with registration. A Merry Bass-mas concert at Old Settler's on Tuesday, Dec. 15, is also free to the public from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The library closes out the year with a free Noon Years Eve celebration from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 31. Registration is required.

Camps for school breaks

The Apex Centre lists two sessions of winter break camp for ages 5 to 12, Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with before- and after-care available. A Thanksgiving break camp is also offered. The city says there are no camps Nov. 26-27 or Dec. 24-25, and each Apex Centre camp registration carries a $25 nonrefundable fee.
