The Dallas Stars ensured their captain would remain in the fold, re-signing Jamie Benn to a one-year contract on Friday. The agreement includes an $850,000 base salary and up to $1.15 million in performance-based bonuses for the 2026-27 season.

Benn, entering his 18th NHL season at age 36, recorded 36 points in 60 games during the 2025-26 campaign. He scored 15 goals and tallied 21 assists while battling an injury that sidelined him for 20 contests, then went scoreless in a six-game playoff series against Minnesota.

General manager Jim Nill praised the captain's leadership, stating that Benn's commitment to the organization is truly unmatched and that he continues to set the standard on and off the ice. Nill expressed excitement about having Benn lead the team for another season.

The franchise cornerstone sits second in team history in games played, goals, and total points, behind only Hall of Famer Mike Modano. Benn has compiled 414 goals and 992 points across 1,252 regular-season appearances, leaving him eight points away from the 1,000-point plateau.

Dallas cleared cap space earlier in free agency by trading Mavrik Bourque and Ilya Lyubushkin to Nashville for draft picks. The organization continues negotiating with Jason Robertson on a long-term extension reportedly worth $12 to $14 million per year.
