McKinney, Texas — The Texas Rangers selected Gio Rojas with the 16th pick of Saturday’s opening round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
The 19-year-old left-hander attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. MLB Pipeline ranked Rojas eighth in the prospect class and described him as one of its leading left-handed pitchers.
Rangers amateur scouting director Kip Fagg said the team had prepared for the scenario in which Rojas was still available when Texas chose.
MLB reported that Rojas’ fastball has reached 98 mph, while his other offerings include a sweeping slider and a changeup. In 72 senior-season innings, he registered a 0.58 ERA and 124 strikeouts.
