Stephen Jones: Lamb and Guyton should be ready for Packers after 10-day break

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said Friday that CeeDee Lamb and left tackle Tyler Guyton are in good shape for Oct. 18 at Green Bay. Lamb's quad issue is a bruise; Guyton's back X-rays were negative.

The Cowboys' 10-day gap before Green Bay now comes with a clearer injury picture for the two starters who left Thursday's loss.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and left tackle Tyler Guyton should be available for the Oct. 18 game against the Packers at Lambeau Field. "I think they'll be fine, I think both of them are in good shape," Jones said.

"I think both CeeDee and Tyler will be all ready to go for Green Bay."

The update follows Dallas' 24-16 home loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which dropped the Cowboys to 2-3. Lamb left with a quadriceps injury, and Guyton exited with a back injury.

A bruise and a clean X-ray

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Lamb has a quad bruise that is not considered serious. Lamb had taken another hit to the same area that bothered him the week before against Houston, Yardbarker reported, and he finished Thursday with two catches for 9 yards.

Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday that the X-rays on Guyton's back were negative, ProFootballTalk reported. Guyton sat out Dallas' final offensive series, and Broderick Jones replaced him.

The schedule works in their favor. Dallas does not play again until the Sunday night game at Green Bay, set for 8:20 p.m. Eastern on NBC, which gives both players roughly 10 days to recover instead of a normal week.

Why Lamb's status matters

Through five games, Lamb leads the NFL with 39 receptions and 507 receiving yards and has four touchdowns, according to Yardbarker. Four days before the Tampa Bay loss, he caught 17 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown against Houston, the most catches by any Dallas wide receiver in one game.

Guyton's return would keep Dallas' starting left tackle in place to protect Dak Prescott on the road.

What the injury news does not change

Thursday's loss exposed problems that go beyond health. Dallas ran for 50 yards, allowed 241 rushing yards and scored a season-low 16 points, ESPN reported. Both of Prescott's interceptions came on deflected throws. The defense has allowed more than 20 points in 12 straight games, matching a team record.

Owner Jerry Jones said it would be "premature" to consider playcalling changes and that he has confidence first-time defensive coordinator Christian Parker can turn the defense around, according to ESPN.

For now, the front office's message is that Lamb's quad and Guyton's back are not expected to keep either player out of the Oct. 18 game.
