Pen’s Early Power, Alvarez’s Blast Lift Astros Past Royals

Early Offensive Surge

The Houston Astros established their lead through powerful early offense, driven by Jeremy Peña’s performance at the plate. In the first inning, Peña launched a 440-foot home run to left center, providing the team with its initial run and breaking the scoreless tie.

That momentum carried into the third inning, where Peña struck again, this time hitting a 370-foot shot to left field that extended Houston’s advantage to 2-0.

Middle Innings Production

Kansas City managed to get on the board in the fifth inning when Jensen doubled to left field, allowing Collins to score and cut the deficit to 1-2. However, the Royals’ rally was short-lived. Immediately following that play, Yordan Alvarez homered to right center on a 376-foot drive.

The blast not only tied the game but also propelled Peña home, giving Houston a 4-1 lead. Alvarez’s contribution proved crucial in shifting the momentum back in favor of the home team.

Late Inning Defense

Kansas City attempted one more comeback attempt in the sixth inning. Pasquantino hit a 376-foot home run to right center, making the score 2-4 and keeping the game within reach. The Astros’ bullpen then stepped in to close out the contest.

Hunter Brown started for Houston, pitching five innings with ten strikeouts against two hits, though he allowed one earned run. He was followed by Bennett Sousa, who pitched one inning and allowed one hit and one earned run.

Closing Out the Game

The final three innings were secured by a trio of relievers. AJ Blubaugh worked the seventh inning without allowing a hit or a run, earning his 11th hold. Bryan Abreu followed in the eighth, also pitching a perfect frame with one strikeout and no walks, adding his 15th hold.

Josh Hader closed the game in the ninth, recording one hit and one strikeout to earn his 26th save.

Michael Wacha took the loss for Kansas City, allowing four earned runs on four hits over six innings while striking out two. Lucas Erceg and Jose Cuas each pitched one inning for the Royals, combining to strike out three batters without allowing any further runs.

The victory improved Houston’s record to 76-75, while Kansas City fell to 66-85. The game was played in front of 28,635 spectators at Daikin Park.
