McKinney is about to become home to one of the companies that quietly keeps artificial intelligence running. Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday that LITEON Technology, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, will build a new AI power and infrastructure manufacturing facility in McKinney, a project expected to draw nearly $919 million in investment and create more than 600 jobs over its lifetime.
The first phase alone represents a $307 million capital investment and about 500 jobs. The facility will span more than 650,000 square feet and serve as LITEON's North American headquarters for advanced manufacturing, designing and producing the power systems that AI data centers depend on. The state backed the project with a $3.5 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant and a $100,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus.
"Texas is where the world invests and innovates," Abbott said in the announcement. LITEON Chairman Tom Soong said McKinney "is a community that shares our values of hard work, innovation, and opportunity."
So who is LITEON? Founded in 1975, it was the first electronics company to list on the Taiwan stock exchange, and it spent its first decades as a pioneer in LED technology and a leading maker of optoelectronic components and power management modules.
If you have used a computer, a printer, or a phone charger in the past forty years, there is a fair chance a LITEON component was somewhere inside.
The company's second act is what brings it to McKinney. Every AI data center is, at bottom, an enormous power-conversion problem: racks of chips that draw staggering amounts of electricity and need it delivered efficiently, reliably, and without interruption. LITEON builds the high-end server power supplies and battery backup units that do exactly that.
The bet has transformed the company. Its AI-related business grew from roughly a fifth of revenue in 2025 toward a projected 40 percent this year, according to Taiwanese industry reports, and its June revenue rose 37 percent from a year earlier on demand for AI server power.
