Allen law enforcement officials have conducted a months-long investigation into the sale of tobacco and vaping products to minors within the city limits. The effort involved officers posing as buyers to make undercover purchases at various smoke shops across Allen. The city is located approximately 7 miles southwest of McKinney.
According to the Allen Police Department, the primary focus of the operation was to determine whether stores were violating state laws that require customers to be at least 21 years old to purchase vape items. Police stated that despite these age restrictions, some retailers continued to sell to underage individuals.
In many of these cases, officers reported that the THC products sold were well over the legal limit for such substances.
To support the investigation, the department sent the seized THC products to a certified laboratory in North Texas for testing. The results from these tests helped establish the nature and potency of the items being sold illegally. The Allen Police Department noted that this issue extends beyond their jurisdiction, a point echoed by police chiefs in neighboring communities.
