The City of McKinney’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has distributed more than 1,700 free emergency preparedness bags to residents. These kits are currently available at two community locations as part of the city’s annual outreach to educate the public on local hazards and household readiness.
Residents can pick up the bags on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The two distribution sites are the John & Judy Gay Library at 6861 Eldorado Pkwy. and the McKinney Senior Recreation Center at 1400 S College St.
Each kit contains practical resources and basic supplies, including bandages, an ice scraper, and a pen or crayons. The materials also feature an emergency supply checklist, information about local hazards, and educational activities. To accommodate the diverse population, these resources are provided in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Hindi.
In addition to the bag distribution, OEM is partnering with the John & Judy Gay Library to host a free Disaster Preparedness workshop. Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, the class allows participants to build their own emergency kit. The session is open to the public, though registration is required to attend.
