Flower Mound defeated McKinney Boyd 28-24 in their 2026 season opener at McKinney ISD Stadium. The Jaguars overcame a late deficit to take the lead with under two minutes remaining, a score that held for the final result.

The game featured a back-and-forth exchange in the final minutes. With 56 seconds left, Boyd junior quarterback Major Smith connected with senior Hudson Drake on a 66-yard pass to give the Broncos an 18-14 lead. Twenty-one seconds later, Flower Mound junior Wyatt LeJeune returned a kickoff 28 yards and then rushed 68 yards for a touchdown, restoring the Jaguars' lead at 21-18.

Boyd regained the advantage midway through the fourth quarter, taking a 24-21 lead. The Broncos' defense forced a punt, but their subsequent punt was placed near the Flower Mound 2-yard line. From that position, senior quarterback Baron Sampson drove the Jaguars into scoring range.

With 49 seconds remaining, Sampson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to senior Mike Miles, giving Flower Mound the 28-24 lead that would stand.

Sampson finished the game 17-of-32 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. LeJeune rushed for 116 yards and a score on 12 carries. For Boyd, Smith completed 28 of 40 passes for 334 yards and a touchdown, while Drake caught eight passes for 124 yards and a score.

Flower Mound head coach Brian Basil noted the team's resilience in overcoming mistakes. "I love the resiliency," Basil said. "Boyd threw some shots at us, we made some mistakes, but we overcame those and I think that says a lot."

Sampson expressed excitement about the team's start to the season, crediting the group's hard work during the offseason. "We worked hard all offseason; I have to give glory to God and the team all together," Sampson said.
