McKinney Oktoberfest is scheduled to return to the historic downtown district from September 25 through 27. The event takes place at 111 N. Tennessee St., with admission to the general festival grounds remaining free.
Festival hours vary by day. The event opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and runs until 11 p.m. On Saturday, gates open at 11 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Sunday’s festivities run from noon to 5 p.m.
Attendees can expect German music, traditional dancing, and costumes throughout the weekend. While general entry is free, certain activities and specialty areas require tickets or registration. A family-friendly atmosphere is emphasized, with children’s activities available alongside the main entertainment.
Among the unique competitions is the Hofbräu Maßkrugstemmen Stein Holding Competition. Participants must hold a one-liter glass stein filled with beer at arm's length for as long as possible. The individual who maintains the position the longest wins the event. A beard and mustache contest also allows contestants to compete for titles.
The 17th Annual Weenie Dog Races feature dachshunds and other breeds competing for bragging rights. More than 70 dogs are expected to participate in the race, which is open to various breeds.
For adults, the Blue Box VIP Biergarten offers a 21-and-over space with craft beer, food, live music, and private restrooms. Multi-day VIP passes include a commemorative stein, an official pin, an exclusive T-shirt, and two beer and two food vouchers. Children in strollers are permitted in this area.
