McKinney residents are advised that a large-scale emergency response exercise will take place at McKinney National Airport (TKI) on Friday, Sept. 18. City officials stated that the event is a planned drill and does not involve an actual emergency, urging the public not to be alarmed by the activity.
The exercise is scheduled to run from approximately 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During this time, the public may observe a significant presence of emergency vehicles, first responders, and other public safety personnel in and around the airport. The primary goal of the drill is to simulate an emergency scenario and test the coordination capabilities of participating agencies and community partners.
Multiple local organizations are involved in the exercise. Participants include the city of McKinney, the McKinney police and fire departments, and the city's emergency management department. Additionally, McKinney ISD and area hospitals will take part in the simulation. City leaders, along with members of the communications and marketing department, are also listed as participants.
In related news regarding the airport, Avelo Airlines is set to launch its inaugural commercial flights from TKI on Nov. 11. These flights will connect North Texas to five popular leisure destinations.
