Two men are facing felony charges following a collision in McKinney that police say was caused by street racing. The crash, which occurred on July 17, killed an elderly couple traveling in a silver Hyundai.
James Armont, 51, has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter. He was driving a BMW at the time of the incident. According to court records, Armont was arrested on July 21 and is currently held in the Collin County Jail. His bond has been set at $75,000 for each charge.
Braydon Moss, 22, faces two counts of racing on a highway resulting in injury or death. Police identified him as the driver of a black Tesla involved in the crash. Moss surrendered to authorities on Saturday after arrest warrants were issued for his case.
Investigators stated that the collision stemmed from a high-speed race between the two vehicles. The Hyundai, traveling south, was struck at the intersection of Custer Road and Bedford Lane. William "Bill" Lavich Lazarus and Sandra "Sandi" Lee Lazarus, both 77 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Armont and his passengers sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. They were transported to a hospital following the crash.
