McKinney library offers monthly art challenge for teens

The McKinney Public Library System is offering a monthly art challenge for students in grades 6 through 12. The program is designed to provide creative learning opportunities and encourage self-directed discovery. The first session, titled "Heartful Meditation and Art," is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A subsequent session is listed for Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The event takes place at the John and Judy Gay Library. According to the library's description, participants are invited to explore creativity with no limits. Each month's challenge allows students to use artistic skills and take home a new project.

The library states that no materials or drawing experience are required, asking participants only to bring their imagination. The session structure includes a welcome, an introduction, the main activity, and a clean-up period.

Registration is required for the event. There are eight seats available for each session. While the event is listed as in-person at the John and Judy Gay Library, the registration form notes that it is an online event and that an event URL will be sent via email to confirm registration. Participants must provide their full name, email, and date of birth to register.

The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library is currently closed for renovations. During this time, holds and returns are available at the John and Judy Gay Library and McKinney City Hall. By attending the art challenge, participants consent to the use of their voice, name, or likeness in promotional materials without compensation.

They also release the City of McKinney and its assignees from liability. Individuals who do not wish to be subject to these terms are advised not to attend.
