The McKinney Public Library System has announced an in-person Art Challenge designed for students in sixth through twelfth grade. The event will take place at the John and Judy Gay Library on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The program focuses on creating customizable pens and sketchbooks. Participants will engage in guided creation time lasting between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the specific project requirements. The schedule includes a welcome and introduction to the month's art technique, which will last five to 10 minutes, followed by optional time for decorations and finishing touches. Attendees are also expected to participate in cleanup.
The library states that the program is designed to offer creative learning opportunities, present diverse perspectives and content, and launch discovery and self-directed learning. The event is part of a monthly series that allows participants to explore creativity and take home their finished work.
