McKinney Opens Cooling Stations as Heat Index Hits 100 Degrees

The City of McKinney has announced the opening of cooling stations for residents as the heat index reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The city provides these facilities to offer relief during periods of high temperatures.

Cooling stations are currently open at two locations. Emmanuel Labor, located at 315 N. McDonald St., is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Salvation Army, located at 600 Wilson Creek Parkway, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Residents seeking updates on city services can call 214-945-4637. The city reports that there are currently no weather impacts affecting modified city services or trash collection schedules.

For individuals requiring assistance, McKinney SOAR (Street Outreach Ambassadors & Resources) is available to help. Residents who need help or know someone who does can call 469-215-1786 to reach the mobile outreach team. This team provides support for unsheltered residents and accepts requests from the public to assist individuals in need throughout the community.

The city also provides guidelines for tree limb and yard waste disposal. Residents with missing or damaged carts are advised to check their neighborhood first, as most carts are found quickly. Carts have a unique RPC number for the address.

Residents who do not know their number can call 972-547-7385 for assistance. If a cart is not found within a week, residents may complete a new cart form. The city notes that new carts will not be assigned for at least a week following a weather event, and lost cart replacements cost $75.00.
