Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino will miss the remainder of the season because of a leg injury suffered against Prairie View A&M, coach Dave Aranda confirmed after the game. “We lose him for the season,” Aranda said.
The injury occurred on Baylor’s second offensive play from scrimmage when a Prairie View A&M offensive lineman made a cut block on Tezino. Tezino called for medical personnel immediately and was later taken from the field by cart.
Tezino, a fifth-year senior from Killeen, entered the season after recording two sacks and deflecting a pass that resulted in an interception during the opener against Auburn. Aranda said Tezino had been playing the best football of his career before the injury.
Tezino appeared in all 12 games last season, starting seven, despite dealing with injuries. He finished that season with 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup. In 29 games at Baylor, he has totaled 56 tackles.
Baylor has depth along its defensive line, but Tezino is the second starting player the Bears have lost to a season-ending injury. Safety Jacob Redding also is out for the season.
