The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson to their backfield group and are keeping him on the practice squad after signing him and waiving Israel Abanikanda. The move follows the release of 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue near the end of training camp.
Goodson’s former Atlanta Falcons teammate, Bijan Robinson, discussed the move in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa. Robinson described Goodson as a highly capable player who can run with speed, change direction across the field and contribute as a receiver. Robinson also said Goodson is a strong person and that he wished Atlanta had kept him.
Goodson spent only training camp with Atlanta but led the Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards. He also scored on a 49-yard rushing touchdown during the preseason.
Before joining Atlanta, Goodson played his first three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He carried the ball 54 times for 264 yards and one touchdown, while also making 19 catches for 103 yards and another touchdown.
Dallas has been adding depth behind its running backs after Malik Davis suffered an injury. Goodson’s ability to run and catch gives the Cowboys another option, although his opportunities to play remain unclear. The team is coming off a loss to the New York Giants and will next face the Washington Commanders.
