The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly added running back Tyler Goodson after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will keep him out for the season.
Goodson, 25, spent the past three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after originally entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2023. He appeared in 33 games for Indianapolis, carrying 54 times for 264 yards, an average of 4.9 yards per attempt.
The former Iowa player also contributed on special teams, recording 304 snaps in that role during the past two seasons. That work could help address the role Davis held for the Cowboys.
Indianapolis released Goodson before he joined the Atlanta Falcons for training camp. Atlanta later released him, and Goodson returned to the Falcons’ practice squad after clearing waivers. The Cowboys added him this week, with the move reported by Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson.
Dallas promoted Emari Demercado to the No. 2 running back spot for its game against the Giants. Demercado had two carries for seven yards, while starter Javonte Williams carried 12 times in a game in which the Cowboys ran the ball 18 times overall. Williams also caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.
