Houston has revised offensive tackle Trent Brown’s contract to increase the amount he can earn through 2026 playing-time incentives. The maximum additional payout rose from $1.5 million to $2.5 million, according to details posted by Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti on Sept. 16.
The updated structure includes $500,000 bonuses tied to Brown reaching playing-time levels of 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously reported that the revision did not change Brown’s salary-cap charge or his initial cash flow, but added incentives to the original agreement.
Brown returned to Houston on a one-season contract worth $5.5 million. He played in seven regular-season starts for the Texans in 2025 and started one playoff game, while injuries affected him at both the beginning and end of that campaign.
The Texans also added Braden Smith on a two-year, $20 million contract during free agency. Smith has dealt with injuries since joining the team and was placed on injured reserve, while Brown remained involved with the team during the offseason program. Brown started at right tackle in Week 1.
Brown was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2015 draft. He has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders, and has started 104 of the 111 games he has played. He won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018, when Texans general manager Nick Caserio was an executive with the Patriots.
