Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is considered doubtful to play against Louisiana Tech on Saturday as he continues recovering from an ankle injury, but a report cited by si.com indicates he may be available when the Bears open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.
Lagway sustained a high-ankle sprain during Baylor’s 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. He stayed in that game and finished with 333 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The injury was later supported by a visible wrap around his ankle.
The injury kept Lagway out of Baylor’s next game against Prairie View A&M. Nate Bennett started in his place and completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards in a 44-3 Baylor win. Bennett also threw three touchdown passes and scored once on the ground.
Bennett is expected to start again if Lagway cannot play against Louisiana Tech. Baylor coach Dave Aranda has said Lagway felt good during a Sunday practice, and the quarterback was expected to work with the team during the week.
On3 reporter Pete Nakos reported that Lagway is trending toward playing against Colorado. The Bears are taking a cautious approach with the ankle while preparing for the matchup, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Mountain Time on Sept. 26. Colorado is scheduled to play Northwestern before facing Baylor.
