A Late Rally Falls Short
The Texas Longhorns survived a fourth-quarter surge from Ole Miss to secure a 34-27 victory at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Despite surrendering multiple scoring drives in the final period, Texas relied on decisive offensive plays from quarterback Arch Manning and kicker Gianni Spetic to maintain its lead until the final whistle.
Texas entered the fourth quarter with a 24-17 advantage, but the Rebels refused to go quietly. Ole Miss cut the deficit to seven points when Trinidad Chambliss connected with Horatio Fields on a 27-yard pass, tying the game at 24-24.
The momentum seemed to shift further when Texas committed a fumble, which Kam Franklin recovered for a touchdown to give Ole Miss a 31-24 lead late in the third quarter. However, the Longhorns’ offense responded immediately after the turnover.
Manning and Spetic Keep Texas Ahead
Arch Manning orchestrated the critical scoring drive that restored Texas’s lead. He capped the effort with a one-yard touchdown run, putting the Longhorns back on top 31-24. Gianni Spetic added a 33-yard field goal shortly thereafter to extend the advantage to 34-24. The extra point attempt failed, leaving the score at 34-24 before Ole Miss managed one more field goal.
Manning’s performance was pivotal in keeping Texas competitive throughout the contest. He completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown, though he also threw two interceptions. His early connection with Ryan Wingo proved essential in building the initial lead. Wingo hauled in seven receptions for 111 yards, including a pivotal 50-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter that helped Texas establish control.
