Extra bases did what singles could not finish alone. Brandon Nimmo doubled to right in the fifth Saturday night at Chase Field, scoring Corey Seager, sending Josh Jung to third, and teeing up Ezequiel Duran's two-run single as the Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2.
Per ESPN's box score, Nimmo finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. ESPN's box matches that line. The Associated Press cast Wyatt Langford's leadoff homer and Duran's single as the frame's signatures. Nimmo's gap shot was the swing that stretched a lead and loaded the next batter with purpose.
The double that widened everything
Arizona's early 1-0 edge, built when Tim Tawa scored on a Pavin Smith single, lasted only until Langford's 17th homer. A safe call on Seager at first, upheld after an inconclusive review of Brandon Pfaadt's foot, kept the inning open, the AP reported. Elias Diaz singled home Jake Burger. Jung singled home Diaz. Then Nimmo doubled.
Duran followed by plating Jung and Nimmo. Texas led 6-1 before Arizona could reset. Nimmo later scored on that Duran single, completing his own trip from gap double to run scored inside the same half-inning.
