Tiebreakers that still matter
Nolan Writin's Monday update listed the wild-card order after Sunday as the Yankees and Red Sox well clear, Cleveland at 76-74, Toronto at 75-75, and Texas at 74-76. The same piece noted Texas holds the season-series tiebreaker over both Toronto (a four-game sweep in June) and Cleveland (four wins in six meetings earlier this year).
Even a sweep by the Blue Jays in the upcoming Globe Life series would leave Texas owning the head-to-head edge over Toronto.
The AL West picture is tighter and less friendly. Houston sits 75-75; Texas is a game back at 74-76. Nolan Writin cautioned that the Astros hold the tiebreaker over the Rangers, which effectively makes Texas two games out of the division lead in a head-to-head sense even while the raw games-back column reads one.
What the Arizona series changed
Texas had lost eight straight road series before taking the final two games at Chase Field, ESPN reported. Cal Quantrill worked six-plus innings Sunday and allowed two runs. Seager's first-inning two-run shot was his fourth homer in seven games.
