Food pantries, medical clinics, homeless services and a veterans aid program are among more than 40 projects in line for city money when the McKinney City Council meets Monday.

A resolution on the agenda would approve $405,000 in Community Support Grant awards for fiscal 2026-27 as recommended by the Community Grants Advisory Commission, which held two public hearings and a public meeting on the applications. A separate Transit Homelessness Response Grant of $20,000 would go to The Samaritan Inn for transportation services for its shelter residents.

Largest awards

The two biggest community support awards go to programs the city runs itself: $30,000 for Emergency Water Utility Assistance and $20,000 for the LIFT security deposit assistance program.

Among outside groups, the recommendations include:

  • $14,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County for an academic success program
  • $13,286 to CommonGood Medical to widen access to primary care
  • $12,429 to Peace in the Home, formerly the Texas Muslim Women's Foundation, for domestic violence intervention
  • $12,286 to the Brain Injury Network of Dallas for its clubhouse program
  • $12,143 to Volunteer McKinney for emergency volunteer response, plus $7,714 for training
  • $12,000 each to the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County and Catholic Charities of Dallas for its McKinney community health clinic
  • $11,714 to Shiloh Place for case management
  • $11,700 to The Samaritan Inn's food pantry
  • $10,286 to The Salvation Army for an overnight warming station
  • $9,571 to the Veterans Center of North Texas for emergency financial assistance

Smaller awards, most between $3,000 and $11,000, would support other food pantries, hygiene and clothing programs, housing application help, homelessness prevention for families, a geriatric wellness center, and job training for adults who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Several grants are tagged for "capacity building," such as new technology or data systems for the nonprofits themselves.

Two requests on the commission's list were recommended for $0: a food pantry application from Amazing Church McKinney, whose housing support program is slated for $7,857, and a technology and data security request from The Samaritan Inn.

Also on Monday's agenda

The council will also consider extending its interlocal agreement with Dallas Area Rapid Transit for micro-transit service through 2027, and applying for a federal Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership grant for improvements at Old Settler's Park.

The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall and streams on the city's website.
