The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to travel to Brazil after improving to 1-1 with a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. The team is scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 27 at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where the condition of the playing surface has drawn attention.
Agustin Rossi, the goalkeeper for Flamengo Football Club, recently criticized the field after playing there. He said the penalty areas had numerous uneven spots and expressed hope that the surface would be improved before the NFL game.
The NFL told The Athletic that it has preparations in place for the venue. "As with all international games, we have a plan in place to ensure a high-quality playing surface," the league said.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team's operations staff has been communicating with the league about the field. He said league officials believe the surface will be ready and that Todd Williams, the team's vice president of football operations, and his staff were working with the league office on the issue.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he did not yet have additional information but described the field as a priority after the Washington game. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who recorded 153 yards and two touchdowns against Washington, said he would focus on playing.
