The Dallas Cowboys secured a 17-7 victory against the Seattle Seahawks in their first preseason game, but the win came with concerns over a new injury to running back Phil Mafah. During the game, Mafah sustained a chest injury and was initially listed as questionable to return before being ruled out for the remainder of the match.

Fortunately, early assessments suggest that Mafah's injury is not serious. He is currently positioned third on the Cowboys' depth chart, behind fellow running backs Javonte Williams and Jaydon Blue. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided an update on Mafah's condition, stating, "Yeah, he's okay, I talked to him. I think we came out okay, a little bumps and bruises."

In addition to Mafah, Schottenheimer mentioned that another player, Justin Barron, also experienced some discomfort during the game. The coach noted that the team would evaluate the players further the following day in Oxnard, California, where they are set to receive treatment.

Mafah, who was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, faced challenges during his rookie season, having played only one game in 2025, where he recorded five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown. As he competes for a spot on the final 53-man roster, his performance and health will be closely monitored.

Meanwhile, veteran running back Malik Davis stood out during the game, showcasing his skills with seven carries for 39 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry against the Seahawks. His performance may bolster his chances of securing a place on the roster as the team prepares for roster cuts.
