McKinney ISD Kept Its B. The State's Campus Data Fills In the Rest.

McKinney ISD earned an overall B from the Texas Education Agency in the 2026 accountability ratings released Friday, with a score of 87, according to the state's published campus data.

The district announced the results the same day, highlighting that all three of its high schools earned A ratings for a second consecutive year and that every middle school earned an A or a B. The state's data confirms both claims.

What the state's numbers show

The district's overall B rests on three domains. McKinney ISD scored 88, a B, in student achievement; 81, a B, in school progress; and 86, a B, in closing the gaps. Within school progress, the academic growth measure came in at 78, a C, while relative performance scored 81, a B.

Across the district's 33 campuses, 30 received a letter grade. Three, including the JJAEP and an alternative campus, were not rated.

At the top, McKinney North High School and McKinney Boyd High School each scored 94, and McKinney High School scored 93, all A ratings. Dr. Jack Cockrill Middle School scored 92 and Dowell Middle School 90, both A ratings, with Faubion, Scott Morgan Johnson and Leonard Evans Jr. middle schools earning Bs.

The elementary picture

The district's announcement did not address elementary campuses, which account for the large majority of its rated schools. Among those 22 campuses, the state's data shows a wider spread.

Four earned an A: Roy Lee Walker Elementary and Herman Lawson Early Childhood School at 94, Earl and Lottie Wolford Elementary at 92, and C.T. Eddins Elementary at 91. Seven earned a B, ranging from Glen Oaks Elementary at 89 to Valley Creek Elementary at 80.

Six elementary campuses received a C, from Reuben Johnson Elementary at 77 down to Albert and Iola Lee Davis Malvern Elementary at 70. Four received a D: Caldwell Elementary and Jose de Jesus and Maria Luisa Vega Elementary at 69, Naomi Press Elementary at 68, and Finch Elementary at 66. One campus, Webb Elementary, received an F with a score of 57.

Counted across the district, the 30 rated campuses break down as seven A ratings, 12 Bs, six Cs, four Ds and one F.

What the district said

Superintendent Shawn Pratt framed the results as a mix of accomplishments and work ahead.

"These results provide valuable insight into both our successes and the areas where we can continue to grow," Pratt said in the district's announcement. "We are proud of the accomplishments of our students, teachers, and staff, and we remain committed to ensuring every student experiences high-quality instruction, meaningful learning opportunities, and the support they need to graduate ready for college, career, and life."

The district said leaders have completed an initial review and are working with campuses to celebrate accomplishments, identify opportunities for growth and determine next steps. It also noted that state ratings are one measure among several, and that it tracks performance separately through what it calls the McKinney Accountability System, which it describes as reflecting the areas that matter most to the community.
