Jerry Jones said the Cowboys could make financially driven roster improvements after Dallas defeated Washington 37-20 ahead of its Week 3 game in Brazil. Jones made the comments during his weekly interview with 105.3 The Fan, saying his earlier remarks about an older man with money referred to football decisions and reflected his optimism about the team.
Jones also said Dallas needs to improve its running game. The Cowboys passed for 266 yards against Washington but finished with 66 rushing yards. Javonte Williams carried 12 times for 30 yards.
Jones praised defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark, describing them as key pieces in the middle of the defense. He said Williams is not dealing with an injury after appearing slow to rise following a couple of plays against Washington.
Dallas is scheduled to play Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro at Maracanã Stadium. Questions have been raised about the stadium’s playing surface after Flamengo players expressed dissatisfaction with it earlier in the week. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the Cowboys’ operations staff has been in contact with the league and that he has no concerns about the field.
