Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after helping SMU defeat NC State 1-0. The senior captain scored the only goal and led a defense that limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target. The result gave the Mustangs their fifth shutout this season.
The ACC announced Tuesday that Panozzo shared the co-defensive honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly. SMU Athletics reported that the recognition is the program’s second conference weekly award this season. Panozzo is from Sarasota, Florida.
SMU moved up to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll following the victory. The Mustangs hold a 7-0-1 overall record and are 2-0-0 in conference play. Their next ACC match is scheduled for Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
