Dallas is about 31 miles south of McKinney. A false report of a shooting in Johnson County led to a law enforcement response, county officials said.
Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies were sent to County Road 1230 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday after the report came in. The people at the location were safe, and deputies found no indication that a shooting had taken place.
Officials said the call appeared consistent with swatting, a type of incident involving a fabricated emergency report intended to bring a substantial law enforcement response to a location where people are unaware of the report. WFAA reported the officials' statement.
